Cluster beans are leguminous plants and serve as the sole source of guar gum. Made from cluster beans, guar gum is known for its thickening and stabilizing properties and has been used for many years in the food and oil industries. Additionally, they are harvested while they are young and tender. The harvesting process involves several steps:
1. Harvesting:
Cluster bean harvesting usually takes place between 50 to 70 days following planting, when the pods are still young and fragile. Then, the pods are collected before the seeds reach maturity and harden.
2. Regular Harvesting :
Harvesting of cluster beans is frequently carried out at regular intervals throughout the growing season to maintain a consistent yield of fresh and tender pods. Additionally, this practice promotes the ongoing development of new pods on the plants.
3. Post-Harvest Handling :
After harvesting, they are gathered and sorted, with ripe or broken pods often removed and thrown away. Then, they are packed into containers to be delivered to markets or facilities for processing.
